![]() Prior to Milestone's announcement, Static was included as an exclusive character in the Injustice Mobile game. In 2015, Milestone announced a new publishing strategy that would disentangle the characters from the DCU. When Milestone was folded into DC, Static became a satellite fixture of the Teen Titans, and forged a relationship with electrically powered seventies hero Black Lightning. He used his newfound powers to take up the responsibility of fighting crime in the city of Dakota. Static was Virgil Hawkins: A high school aged student exposed to a an experimental chemical that gave him mastery over electromagnetism. Founded by such luminaries of comics and animation as Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, and with input from Christopher Priest Milestone's original mission statement was to offer a broader cultural representation within the superhero comic genre. The early nineties independent media group forged a publishing deal with DC Comics, but their characters weren't absorbed into the DC Universe until 2009. Though the cartoon and comics crossed over with DC properties, Static was in fact a creation of Milestone Comics. He was all cleaned up and ready to go, but unfortunately Static didn't make the cut for #injustice2. A character Nelor was personally disappointed to see cut from the final playable roster: " So sad about this one. The image that excited most fans - was that of electrically charged Teen Titan: Static. His artwork reflects a deep exploration of their floral make-up, the artist remarking on one image, " Much about was learned that week." Nelor is clearly in touch with mother nature, having worked on designs for plant-based characters Swamp Thing and Poison Ivy. After all - again - it is just a game.When NetherRealm Studios develops a new fighting game, they go through many iterations of ideas before arriving at a finished product. The lack of perspective is typical of fandoms and really creates an unwelcoming environment for more casual fans or balanced fans, such as myself, who are happy to see little bit of a crossover. In four years no one will be playing the game anyway because Injustice 3 will probably have been released (at which point people will have new things to complain about). ![]() The backlash, against Raiden in particular, has been quite venomous considering that this is a video game and people need to get a life. DC fans were upset that a second fighter slot has been taken up by a Mortal Kombat character, when they feel it should have gone to a suitable lightning focussed DC character, and that a third slot has been taken up by something so random and unexpected. Hellboy fans argued about whether he should be smoking a cigarette or a cigar. There were very few comments regarding Black Manta, until the gameplay video was posted, which elicited praise, but there were thousands of fan complaints on YouTube and Twitter surrounding Hellboy and, especially, Raiden. ![]() The reaction to Fighter Pack 2 has been mixed. Hellboy is a comics superhero created by writer-artist Mike Mignola that has grown into an independent comics franchise that's also spilled into live-action cinema, animated films, novels, and video games. The third fighter, Hellboy, was a huge surprise. When Sub-Zero was announced as a playable character for Fighter Pack 1 it seemed certain that Raiden would be added to the game soon, especially since its developers, NetherRealm Studios, also developed the fighting game Mortal Kombat X, which was released in 2015. ![]() Neither was Raiden, a character from the Mortal Kombat universe, as the silhouette of his distinctive Asian conical hat has been another clue that's been sitting in the fighter-selection screen for months. Another clue was his silhouette in the fighter-selection screen, which is very distinctive. It has been known since July that Black Manta, who already appears in the game as a non-playable character during a stage transition in Atlantis, would become a playable character as it was accidentally leaked in the Xbox Live Marketplace when a tab briefly appeared saying "Fight as Black Manta in Injustice 2".
